This smoothie captures Valentine’s Day in a jar. It’s creamy, it’s chocolate-y, it’s sweet…..And it’s also GOOD FOR YOU! This recipe can serve two–so why not give this to your kids for breakfast or for an afternoon snack? They’ll love you (even more than they already do) AND they’ll get some beneficial nutrients! If you don’t have kids or your kids are on restrictive diets, it looks like you get an afternoon snack for yourself! Or if you’re like me, I just eat a really big breakfast the mornings I make this one 😉
I’ve helped a lot of people at the beginning of their journey to clean eating, and one of the biggest fears they have besides failure is that food won’t taste the same or that it won’t be flavorful. But once they actually make the move, every single person has said that food tastes better!
Conventional Chocolate or Strawberry smoothies would use artificial ingredients to make some goo taste like chocolate and strawberry. This shake just uses exactly those ingredients: raw cacao nibs (from cacao beans–the basis of chocolate) & frozen strawberries. As with all my recipes with almond milk, I prefer to make my own, but we use Pacific Vanilla Almond Milk in a pinch. If you are nut-free, try your favorite substitution like rice, hemp, or coconut milk!
- 1.5 T cacao nibs
- 1 frozen banana
- 1 cup frozen strawberries
- 1 T cocoa powder
- 1 small handful of kale, washed & destemmed
- ¼-1/2 ripe avocado
- 1½ cups vanilla almond milk
- ½ cup ice
- Put all ingredients in blender (except ice) in the order shown. Blend on high until well combined. Add ice & blend again until smooth & creamy.
